With its touch screen input system, the Nintendo DS makes portable gaming more accessible than ever to the casual gamer or non-gamer. The same applies to the Wii, with the motion-sensing controls opening up the console world to non-traditional markets.
Nintendo’s latest generation of hardware brings innovation and ease-of-use to the videogame world – not unlike what Apple has done with its iPods and other products. In fact, Nintendo’s similar-to-Apple approach has investors salivating at the Japanese game company’s potential.
Financial firm Goldman Sachs earlier this week gave Nintendo stock a “buy” rating, boosting shares to an all-time high of 64,800 yen ($556) before closing the day at 64,300 ($552). Goldman Sachs forecasts that Nintendo shares could reach 71,000 yen, according to Reuters.
"We believe Nintendo's talent in creating new markets, evident from the launch of the DS and Wii, could bring it close to the level of Apple, whose high valuations are due in large part to its innovative business model," Goldman said in a report.
Just as Apple was able to take the portable music player market away from Sony, industry onlookers believe that Nintendo with its Wii is snatching away market share previously held by the PlayStation.
A recent report figures Nintendo sold about 1.6 million units of the Wii over 26 weeks through September 23 in Japan, while Sony sold 385,492 PlayStation units over the same period.
Thanks to stellar sales of its hardware, Nintendo is now ranked as the third most valuable company in Japan, trailing only Toyota Motor Corp. and Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group. In September, Reuters reported that Nintendo had the second most valuable active stock in Japan. Since the launch of the Wii, Nintendo’s value has shot past mass market companies such as NTT telephone and Honda Motors.

It doesn't hurt that Nintendo isn't losing money like crazy for every console they sell.
Now, if we could just start seeing even more awesome software for the Wii.

They are coming. Don't worry, Nintendo isn't sparing any expense this time, because they have more money then Microsoft has broken 360s! OHHHH BURN.

Yup, and Nintendo's focus on gameplay rather than graphics is winning over a lot of people. Go Nintendo!

Actually, this isn't surprising, really. Most gamers are males. Therefore, the fact that more gamers want to play with their Wii, rather than their Box, is perfectly logical and understandable.

I think the wii was such a big hit because it promotes interaction. maybe there won't be as many "well rounded" gamers anymore.
the wii is by far, the coolest system yet.

lol I got Wii because it cheap and my girlfriend want to play those sport games, got Zelda as well which is awesome. I don't really bother with new consoles that much this day. None of their games look interest to me, if I want an FPS I would get it on the pc.
Might get 360 when GTA4 comes out though, or FF13 on the ps3 but that will be awhile I guess.

I have a Wii, got it at the day it was launched in Europe, and I must say I actually regret buying it.
I originally bought it just for Zelda, but this Zelda was not even remotely close to the N64 / Cube Zelda games :/
Then I bought some first person shooter, doesn't play as nice as it looks like.
And I just got myself Mercury Meltdown Revolution, a nice puzzle game. To me this is the most fun game there is for the Wii right now, which is quite sad.
I'm probably going to buy Super Paper Mario soon, but reviews say it's a lot different from the original Paper Mario 1 & 2, which both are one of the best games I've ever played...
...all I'm doing now is waiting for Smash Brothers :/

no.....Microsoft owns the rights to Halo, just like Vivendi owns the rights to FEAR, which is why "FEAR 2" is called Project Origin.
